Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power…

Hey, it’s Friday and boy am I thankful as I’m sure you are too! Grab your pen and journal and favorite drink and join me for our Coffee Hour and words of encouragement. Today I’m gonna take you on a detour, so to speak….

Detour Ahead….. Lights flashing….. WHAT?

Proverbs 16:9 “The mind of a man plans his way, but the Lord shows him what to do.” (NLV)

Have you ever been redirected while trying to get to your destination and all the while you’re frustrated for reasons like you’re going to be late…you’re going to run out of gas…you’re going to miss an appointment… and all because of a detour you didn’t expect! We’re annoyed with the signs that tell us road closed, detour ahead…and, yes, we think in our human mind and strength “Oh, it’s not speaking to me,” and off we go, headed for possible disaster.

Sure, that sounds pretty drastic, but truthfully, the roadblocks are for our own good. Eventually when we find ourselves being redirected, we’re thankful that we didn’t proceed as the outcome may have been harmful, not only to us but it may have included harm to others as well.

Now let’s bring this into a spiritual application…..

As a Christian in our journey with the Lord, we set out to do the will of our Heavenly Father. Everything is peachy keen, hunky dory, and all of a sudden there’s a sign up head…DETOUR, and lights are flashing or there’s an arrow pointing in another direction.  We sense that He’s telling us, “Don’t walk that way”; “Don’t enter into that direction”; “Danger ahead,” and our first reaction is “What’s going on? I surely didn’t plan for this and I’m a little annoyed!” We can begin to reason or doubt that He’s truly redirecting us and that we need to pay attention.

We sometimes can make every excuse or blame it on the enemy; however when it’s for our good, it’s ALWAYS from our Heavenly Father.

In the book of Exodus, we see a great example played out when Moses lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt. Their first encounter was the Red Sea “Roadblock.”  One can just imagine the grumbling and complaining that spread throughout the camps.”What in the world is Moses doing? Why did he take us this way instead of that way?  And what was he thinking?” And, yes, I’m sure Moses was frustrated in each roadblock, yet Moses always sought the face of God first and God always provided a way of escape as we read about His faithfulness, to the Promise Land.

“And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.” Exodus 14:31 NKJV

It’s easy to become irritated with God when you hit a roadblock or detour, spiritually. Our first response can be, “How unfair is this?” Sometimes we can think we know what’s best, and insist on going through the roadblock, ignoring the sign in front of us!  God always wants what’s best for us, which is to keep us on the right path. He is not there to hinder us; He is there to assist us in knowing what road…what path…what direction to take.

If you’ve been traveling in this journey and life’s been going pretty well, you’ve mapped out your destination ….. off you go, and then all of a sudden you see ahead: lights flashing, cones in the road, and someone’s standing waiting to speak to you regarding the furtherance of your journey. Know there’s a purpose for your delay; don’t get frustrated; understand His ways are not always our ways and His plans may not be in the direction that you’ve planned!

Take time to Pause, Pray and Praise; be thankful that He is interested in you and loves you enough to direct or redirect you into a promised land.

Observing the roadblock: It could mean a matter of a life changing event!

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 NKJV

Looking forward to what He has ahead for each one of you. Be encouraged and see you next Friday!
