It’s really happening! Publication Update from Coffee Hour@ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and thanks for coming by. Grab your coffee and come on in for a quick update that I just received from my conceptual editor at Tate Publishing, our publisher for the first of the Destination? Joyful! ™ trilogy.

So despite having our editor, Patrick LoBrutto, from New York, since we have by-passed an agent and gone right to a publisher, they have to have someone from their editing staff look it over. That being said, I think this process that Nikki – (and is this just coincidence that one of the main characters in the book is named Nikki?:) ) — has shared with me may actually go a lot quicker, but one thing’s for sure, HE has chosen her to read this novel, so those of you who believe in the power of prayer, would you join me in praying and thereafter agreeing that her heart will be touched and changed through the inspired pages.

So here’s the schedule she sent me: November 1-30th, she will “edit the entire manuscript, watching for things such as grammar, flow, consistency, etc.” Now, I’m thinking, and hoping, that she will find very little that interrupts the flow, if you know what I mean. See, this book was first been read by my team, then the editor, then me and the editor! You would not believe this process, and still we were making changes.

She then goes on to let me know that on November 30th, she “will send me the edited manuscript, which will have problem areas and my suggestions highlighted. You will look through those – and I’ll explain this in more detail at that time – and approve, disapprove or modify.” In other words, I as the author will have final say.

She has asked me to do my part by December 15th, and as I look at the calendar, I realize in between speaking engagements and other responsibilities, this is going to be here before I know it!

After she looks over my changes, or responses to her suggestions, she will then clean up the edits and return it to me by December 30th with the Content Approval Form. I must look over the entire manuscript, again, thoroughly, sign the form approving of the final content and return both the manuscript and form to her.

She went on to tell me that any delays or missed deadlines on my part will result in at least a month’s delay in the production! Yikes!!! She then gave me a list of  things I need to have to her ASAP, and now that our “Keeping the Stress out of the Holidays,” and “Overcoming Depression” event is behind us, this is the next thing I need to tackle.

First she wanted me to confirm in writing the title of the book. I guess authors go back and forth with this title thing, but who am I to argue with You Know Who? Number 2 on the list was any dedications –yikes, that’s not done – the Foreword – yikes, another thing not done which is coming from Patrick LoBrutto – acknowledgments – yikes, not done! – Epilogue – not going have one of them! Whew! And addendum – not going have one of those, either – the book teaser – whew, that’s done! – an author bio – puke, really? I have that somewhere! :).

Okay, so that was, what, at least four things in that one that I have to do yet. Okay, then number 3 asked for any endorsements. Okay, that’s a cut and paste thing cuz I have those somewhere! 🙂 And then the final thing on the list asked me to fill out the author questionnaire! Holy Moly, how does one stay focused on writing with all of these side-street distractions. Ugh!

So, I think it’s time for an attitude change on my part! Would you pray for me and please, don’t get me wrong; I am so excited and can hardly wait to see this book getting out there. I just had no idea so much was involved! What He brings us to, He’ll see us through!
