A Psalm a Day… from Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power, and welcome back to our “A Psalm a Day…” series. I’m really happy you came by. You know, no matter how you’re feeling, antsy, anxious, depressed or sad, angry or bitter, the Psalms never fail to splash perspective on our souls and put us in a different place. For those of you here for the first time, the whole purpose of this series is to bring the inspired words to life within us through reading the words and meditating upon them and then rewriting them by putting our thoughts and circumstances into them. It’s really a thought-provoking and heart-warming exercise, even if you don’t like to write. You don’t need to be a writer to enjoy the benefits from doing this. Grab your coffee and come on in.

Today is the 15th so let’s go to Psalm 15 which is a Psalm of David and the theme is the guidelines for living a blameless life. They’re not rules or laws, but boundaries, if you will, for us to stay within. Boundaries are less confining than laws, gentle, not so harsh. Could it be because these are inspired words laced with His love? Let’s check it out.

Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness and speaks the truth in his/her heart; he who does not backbite with his/her tongue, nor does evil to his/her neighbor, nor does he/she take up a reproach against his/her friend; in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he/she honors those who fear the Lord; he who swears to his/her own hurt and does not change, he who does not put out his/her money at usury, nor does he/she take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

Now let’s put it in a way that speaks to and from our heart. (1) Lord God, I want to hang out with you, meet with you daily, for anywhere we meet will be a holy place. (2) When I meet with you, you will help me to walk a path with less compromise, a narrow path. By walking in truth, my deeds will be right before you, my words will ring of truth from my heart. (3) It is only by hanging out with you that I will not back-stab and hurt others with my words. Your presence in my day prevents me from doing evil to my neighbor and/or anyone I come in contact with and keeps me from speaking harshly of or about a friend. (4) It is because I love your presence in my life that I cannot be with people who relish being vile, but oh how sweet the fellowship with those who also love you and abide with you. As long as I invite you into my day, I will not repay a hurt with a hurt, at least I’ll be more mindful of it. (5) Nor will I ever intentionally take advantage of another for my personal gain. Father, I know I won’t ever be perfect within these boundaries, but my heart does know that when I stay within these gentle lines, I will not be moved in my faith, and when I stray, you will bring me back.

Enjoy your day and may these ten guidelines keep you safe and happy…..
