Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power – Friends and Friendships, continued

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power, and welcome to this sweet series about Friends and Friendships. The discoveries along the way are definitely contributing to my friendships and I hope that you’ve discovered some diamonds to carry with you as well. Grab your coffee and let’s go grab some more diamonds.

So we left off with verse 18 that talks about “as much as depends on you and me,” which signifies that He knew that there were going to be difficult relationships and people hurting people, friends hurting friends. He’s not excusing it, but He does understand it. This verse proves that.

So this is what He tells us to do in these situations: “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves” – wait, we’ve got to stop again. Do you see what He starts out with? He calls us “beloved.” It means “dearly loved,” and it is a term of endearment that He uses to address His kids, and that is Agape love, straight from the Father. That squeezes my heart. Whew. Okay, let’s keep going.

Oh, wait, “Do not avenge yourselves.” Let’s check out “avenge.” Wow, it means retaliate or punish or vindicate. The Strong’s concordance further clarifies that in this particular verse, this is a warning for the believer, His kids, which makes sense and leads us to the rest of this verse: “– but rather, give place to wrath, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

In other words, we don’t need to hold on to old hurt inflicted upon us by friends; nor do we need to exercise a self-given right to get even with those who have hurt us; He’s got our backs. He doesn’t need our help.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t necessarily have a vengeful bone in my body, let alone a vengeful thought in my heart. I don’t really sit there and think about things to do to get even for I know that He will convict their heart at the appropriate time. I also know that when others hurt us, it hurts Him. But – yeah, there’s a “but” — what I am guilty of is rehashing.

I’ve shared with you that I’ve very recently been hurt pretty deeply by a friend and now I am minus that friendship, so this series is as much for me as it is you. Well, yesterday I was talking with a sweet friend, and this person’s name came up and my eyes watered up. I openly reminded myself that if there’s to be reconcilement, it will be in His time, not mine. But just because there hasn’t been reconcilement, there still can be healing, and I realized this morning that I’m the one that brings the shadow of the pain into my other friendships!

As I read this scripture, I can see where that is just as bad as trying to get even. Yes, as we talked about yesterday, the pain is a real thing; it’s what I do while I’m hurting that matters. Help me to not offend You, Father, while hurting through this situation, and please, help my friends out there to let go of their hurt, too.

Have an awesome weekend….

Lots of admiration

I think hurting is one of the “heaviest” feelings a human deals with. The load on your chest is just about the equivalence of an elephant! It is so powerful and consuming. I know how hard this must have been for you, especially since it was so unwarranted.

God bless you with the grace to carry on and may He lighten this burden.

    Love your message.
