Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power – Lighter Moments Make Laughter Possible

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and thank you for stopping by. I thought we’d keep it on the lighter side today and share some laughs. My BFF took me out for an early birthday celebration and I can’t wait to share it with you. We had so much fun and laughed so much. It was not only a great abdominal workout but a great escape from life; that is everything but menopause! Grab your coffee and come on in and I’ll explain what I mean.

A few weeks ago, Janine had told me not to plan anything for Wednesday the 21st. So I planned ahead and got all of my stuff done early. In fact, the whole day was amazing, one of those rare days where I got to do several things I wanted to do versus all the things I had to do. We even enjoyed a shopping spree to Kohl’s to make good use of our 30% off coupons. I love that store and their sales. Sometimes you walk out of there thinking the police are gonna come after you for stealing ‘cause the deals are so amazing. But then again, what manipulation! Because I get 30% off, I spend twice as much! Good trick, huh?

Anyway, I had no idea where we were going until after dinner. We walked out of The Elephant Bar and suddenly she asks: “Do you want to know where we’re going?” “Heck yeah,” I told her. She pulled out the tickets and handed them to me.

Well, until last night, I had only heard about “Menopause, The Musical” from friends, which is where we were headed. I hooted so loud in the parking lot as if no one was listening that I may have even embarrassed her! See, the very thoughtful thing about her gift to me is I entered “the change” a bit early, about three and a half months ago, so I was definitely up for anything that would brighten my perspective about the subject, but I had no idea it would be so hilarious, truly!

The show is set in a department store where four women with seemingly nothing in common meet by chance at a lingerie sale when all four of them grab the same black bra! That would never happen to me because I have to go to the trainer section! Gravity has a way of taking its toll even more so on us who aren’t so endowed 🙂

Anyway, the all-female cast sings rewritten songs to make fun of their woeful hot flashes — man those things are powerfully draining, right? — their forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles — so menopause is to blame for these too? — night sweats and chocolate binges. This comedy is written by women for women and I love the musical aspect of it. All of the music is that of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. For example, some of you may remember the song, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Well, hum the tune and read these words. Ready? “In the workshop or on the rooftop, my husband sleeps tonight. In the guestroom or on the floor, my husband sleeps tonight…” I mean the lyrics are hysterical in all the songs and tailored to make us laugh about our “passage” into this change.

Menopause the musical creates a sisterhood between these diverse women as they realize that “The Change” is no longer “The Silent Passage!” It is a stage in every woman’s life that is perfectly normal! You know, there’s something about being in a theater full of like-minded women! It was like a breath of fresh air and the funny thing about it is I felt younger when I came out of there! I say we get a bunch of us girls together for a fun night out and go see it. I’m thinking maybe that will be the next chicklit drawing prize! A big “thank you,” Neenie. I treasure the time I spent with you.

Laughter is a great medicine for anything. Have an awesome weekend….

According to Ayurveda, healthy living is also the best way to ease symptoms of the menopause transition itself. How balanced, or overall healthy you and your lifestyle are when you reach menopause largely determines how smooth your transition will be.
