Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power – Thoughts to Ponder

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and thanks so very much for coming by! I’ll keep it short today. I got this email from a friend and there were some real good nuggets in it that I’d like to share with you. I’ve added my own twist on them for us, but come on in and let me share them with you.

We as women tend to cram an awful lot into our lives, it’s a wonder we don’t schedule a sick day! I remember actually doing that when I worked for the court. I had to have down day. To do nothing but watch movies and crochet. See, I used to think that was total relaxing! But because life gets to moving pretty fast, especially the older we are, we can run the risk of living on a sparse diet of promises that we make to ourselves that begin with the word “when.”  When this happens, then I can do this. When that happens, then I can take care of that. When I get my living room done, then I’ll entertain. When I’m not embarrassed of my kitchen, then I’ll have people over for dinner.

But have you noticed that the older we get, the shorter the days are and the faster they go and the list of “when’s” gets longer?  Do any of you have a “seize the moment” friend? If so, it’s probably time to call her. Ask her how does she incorporate adventure into her life; how does she keep an open mind on new ideas? Where does her enthusiasm for life come from? Hang out with her for an afternoon, and I bet you’ll be ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator and head for the stairs.

Many of us function well when we make a “To Do” list, but what about a “Should Do” list? I wonder what that would look like. Here’s some things to put on it: If you only had enough time left to call one person, who would it be? What would you say? If you could travel to one destination, where would it be? If you could spend an afternoon with an old friend that you laugh with, who would it be?

How do you know if you need a “Should Do” list? If you answer no to any of these questions, then it’s time to make that list:

“Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain hitting the ground?

Have you ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or gazed at the sun as it faded into night?

Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask ‘How are you?’ Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with a list of to-dos running through your head?

Ever told your child, ‘we’ll do it tomorrow,’ and in the midst of your haste, not see their sorrow?

When we worry and hurry throughout our day, it is like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life is not a race; take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.”

Have an awesome weekend, and a big thanks to JJ for that email. I know it’s a bit different, but hopefully the message is just as meaningful!

Blessings

Evinda
