Faith & Finances (4)-From Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power, and welcome back to our “Faith & Finances” series. I think we started this last week, so if this is your first time with us, feel free to check out the other blogs so you can jump right into our conversation. Grab your coffee and come on in from the rain.

I thought it would be a good idea to elaborate a bit more on some of the things that money can’t buy, like true joy. I will be the first to admit that when the bills are paid and there’s plenty of play money left over, yes, life is a bit easier and I feel a bit happier. Who wouldn’t? It’s always easy to be happy when circumstances are free from financial strain and/or pain. Unfortunately, that’s not consistent reality for a lot of us. See joy isn’t based on circumstances. To have joy means that you are able to rejoice (see the j-o-i?) in plenty and in not-so-plenty seasons. How in the heck can we do that? We can’t on our own. Our joy is brought to life through our faith, not our finances.

We all know that there are people out there who are blessed with no financial strain whatsoever and sometimes I look up and wonder, why oh why do some people prosper and others don’t? Well, that’s probably a common mistake that a lot of us make, comparing our financial situation with others. That’s a dangerous road to follow for it leads to the path of bitterness and then before we know it, our eyes and hearts are fixed on money, how to make it, keep it, spend it, and our faith suffers.

You know, I used to get irritated when someone cut me off on the freeway, and now I remind myself, the last shall be first. Well, when it comes to finances, here’s something to remember: To whom much is given, much is required!

What are you doing with what He’s giving you?

Make it a great day
