Five Ways to Succeed in Life & Love-From Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to our Coffee Hour. I’m delighted you chose to take a little break with me today for the fifth step in this series, “Five Ways to Succeed in Life and Love.” Turn off anything that will interrupt you, grab your coffee and come on in. 🙂

Just to lead in to the final step: Resolve to commit; commit to pray; pray to adjust/conform, and you will experience the beautiful harmony of . . .

HUMILITY

Okay, stop the groaning. It’s really not as painful as it sounds. In fact, if you are truly practicing the first four steps – resolving (partnering with the Holy Spirit), committing, praying and adjusting, you can’t help but land upon this beautiful foundation!

Let me give you this simple definition, one that makes perfect sense and comes from my friend, fellow board member, book team member, former counselor and an amazing mentor, Steve. He defines humility as “Not having a need to be more than you were created to be.”

I just love that definition and it rings the bell of truth all the way down to my toes, I’m telling you! I can’t help but think that humility also takes maturity, but that’s just a side note so I’ll stay on track here. 🙂

Contrary to popular belief, including many new age interpretations and social groups, humility is a beautiful virtue, not easily obtained, sort of like trying to catch a butterfly, which should never be caught, by the way! You follow the butterfly, get closer and closer, within an arm’s reach, stretch out your arm, certain you can grasp the beautiful creature within your hand, only to bring your hand back empty, the shadow of its flutter leaving you sighing, but not so frustrated.

Many of us have heard the humor about praying for patience; I’m sure. God is faithful to give us more than we expect, especially when it’s going to refine us real good like patience does! Anyway, sometime last year, I began praying about humility; shortly thereafter, I celebrated another birthday and a special friend gave me a birthday treasure: It was a book on Humility by Andrew Murray. It is just a small paperback, and only 110 pages long. I have never read a book so slow in my life! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Seriously, a little dab will do ya! I could only read it in small dosages because of its depth and its truth. Now, I am going back through it and reviewing the portions I highlighted (probably 60% of the book!) 🙂 and summarizing it in my heart and within the pages of a journal.

Join me tomorrow for a few of the precious truths that have planted in my heart, reminding me of this valuable virtue in the quest to be successful in life and love.

Humbly,

Evinda

Being humble is not as easy as it sounds huh? I am constantly aware of my flesh getting in my way. Adjustment is a great word and so is flexibility and forgiveness. Having humility is exactly as you say, a process and it is always an on going quest.
