Fridays with Chicklit Power-Generosity From Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Friday’s Coffee Hour with Chickilt Power. Thanks for coming by. I have something really fun to share with you. Grab your coffee and come on in.

I won’t ask you if you like rap music, because when I asked that to our second audience (5th-8th graders at Inland Leaders Charter School) they weren’t very receptive. In fact, a few of them looked highly annoyed!

But, I didn’t let that stop me or intimidate me as I shared with them a message that incorporated their leadership principle, generosity, for the month of December through music! We rocked the house and I think most of them really had a good time.

So I thought I’d share the words with you but I must give credit to our Father, because He’s the one who really guided me in the re-write, because I took a popular rap song and rewrote the words, and then when it came time to perform it for the kids, well, let me just say that He definitely restored my child-like spirit, which is what I had prayed for over a week.

Without further ado, here is “Generosity,” rewritten and rapped to the tune of “Airplane.”

Can we pretend generosity

is like a tree,

Plant it in your hearts

It could really grant a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now).

Can we pretend generosity

Is like a tree

Branching out of our hearts

It will really make a wish come true (wish come true, wish come true)

Yo . . .

You don’t need a dream, or a genie, or a wish

To give gen-er-os-ty, let me tell you this

There is no pretending, no expecting if it’s true

Being gen/rous from the heart will bless you too

You can give gen/ros/ty with money or time

You don’t need a reason or even a rhyme.

Give when you’re happy and give when you’re sad;

There is never a time to give that’s gonna be bad.

This is how gen/er/os/i/ty breaks down;

We’ve got to spell it and bring it around.

Say these letters with me

And you will know what’s gen/er/ros/te.

So get up, get up, stand up real tall

Let’s do this together, one and all.

If we all learn it, then wouldn’t that be tight

Gen/ros/i/ty can turn the not-so-good to all right.

Chorus . . .

G’s for giving; E’s for earnestly

This is the beginning of gen/er/os/ty

The N is for not; the E’s for expecting

R’s reciprocation, that’s with no expectation

O is for open-handed, giving not taking

S is for selfless, generous is in the making

I’s for impartial, plant seeds of gen/er/os/ty

Maybe, yo maybe we’ll branch out like a tree

The T’s for thoughtfulness, use your mind creatively

To come up with ideas to show gen/er/ros/ty

The Y is for you, you and me, each one of us

Can reach out to another and be gen/er/ous

Let’s all branch out to show gen/er/os/ty

Let it come from your heart so it’s a reality

It’s easier to give it out that way

I’m thinking we can show it to one every day!

Generosity to you, friends 🙂

Very cool, it was a great way to get the point across with fun and music. Psalms used in the teaching and praising of God to help the people to remember God’s Word.

Hey there, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility problems. When I look at your blog in IE 6, it looks fine but when opening in Chrome, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, amazing blog! Thanks!Great post!
