He’s a Housekeeper, Too? From Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and thanks for joining me today for a new series. Grab your coffee and come on in.

So this series was actually sparked by “My Heart, Christ’s Home,” a little tracT written by Robert Boyd Munger. This tract absolutely changed my life, revolutionized my understanding and acceptance of His love for me and confirmed that He does long for me and you to know Him. What I’ve done is just bring the theme, if you will, up to date and add some real life experiences to it. So I hope you enjoy it and I pray that it will revive or make new your time you spend with Him.

In the letters to the Ephesians, Paul spoke from his heart several times and one of his deepest desires was that they would experience Christ actually dwelling in their hearts through faith. In other words, Paul longed for them to experience all there is to experience by allowing Christ to be at home in their hearts, but it takes faith. Now, here’s the cool thing: While these are letters to the Ephesians, they are also for you and me. I am sure that there were people in the churches of Ephesus who thought Paul was crazy to imagine that Christ could actually live in a heart like a person lives in a home. Maybe that seems a bit far-fetched to you as well, but stay with me in this series and I’m certain that you won’t be disappointed. 🙂

Here’s another fact about Paul’s desire for us and the Ephesians: It wasn’t just his desire that people would grasp the reality of Christ living in their heart; it was and is Christ’s desire, too. In John 14:23, Jesus was telling the disciples and us this very thing; that though He would soon be leaving them, He and His Father would come and hang out with them,  and that they would make their home in them, and us, too. 🙂

The fact that He does want to be at home in our hearts is one of the most amazing truths that can only be grasped by faith, the truth being that Christ Himself, through the Holy Spirit, will actually enter a heart, settle down and be at home there. The only catch is that He has to be invited. There’s only one handle on the door of your heart and it’s on the inside. He won’t open it and let Himself in. He won’t huff and puff and blow your door down, but He will keep knocking. Opening up the door to your heart is the first step in making your heart His home.

When you do open up the door of your heart and He comes in, you can’t treat Him like an unexpected guest. Let me try and explain what I mean. When you’re expecting company, maybe you’re having a party at your house or just a girls’ get-together. You open the door and invite them in warmly, showing them around to the rooms of the house. You’re prepared for your company and you don’t mind showing your home off because you’ve worked your tail off to make it look nice. There’s nothing like an event to motivate us to get those long-awaited projects done that we keep saving for someday, right? 🙂

But when an unexpected or uninvited guest comes to the door, we hesitate to let them in for whatever reason. Maybe we’re not looking our best, or we haven’t cleaned the kitchen, or there are clothes strewn everywhere and/or the floors are dirty and the vacuuming hasn’t been done and maybe the bathroom’s dirty. We’re just not that comfortable letting an uninvited/unexpected guest in.

That’s why Jesus will never be an unexpected or uninvited guest when He enters your heart. But here’s the beautiful thing about Him coming in. The rooms don’t have to be clean!

Join me tomorrow and I’ll explain what I mean.

  6. Love the start to this series. My favorite line in Ephesians is when Paul prays that the church at Ephesus will be “filled to all the measure of fullness of Jesus Christ”. When I meditate on this, I ponder how my life would be revolutionized if I made that statement a reality! Can’t wait for the rest of the series!

Throughout this grand pattern of things you’ll get a B+ with regard to effort. Where exactly you misplaced us was first on all the facts. You know, it is said, the devil is in the details… And it couldn’t be much more accurate in this article. Having said that, permit me reveal to you just what did give good results. Your writing is definitely really engaging and that is possibly the reason why I am making an effort in order to opine. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. The core of your writing whilst sounding agreeable initially, did not settle properly with me personally after some time. Someplace throughout the sentences you actually were able to make me a believer unfortunately only for a short while. I however have got a problem with your jumps in logic and you might do nicely to fill in all those gaps. If you actually can accomplish that, I would certainly be amazed.

I do like the way you have framed this challenge and it really does give me personally some fodder for thought. Nevertheless, because of just what I have witnessed, I basically wish when other feedback pile on that people keep on issue and don’t get started upon a soap box of some other news du jour. Still, thank you for this outstanding piece and even though I do not concur with it in totality, I value the viewpoint.

Almost all of the things you assert is supprisingly legitimate and that makes me wonder the reason why I hadn’t looked at this in this light previously. This particular article truly did switch the light on for me personally as far as this specific subject goes. Nonetheless there is actually one particular point I am not really too comfy with so while I make an effort to reconcile that with the actual core idea of the position, allow me see just what the rest of the subscribers have to say.Nicely done.
