Cleaning Tip Tuesdays! From Coffee Hour @ Chickilt Power

Thanks for joining me today. Did you notice a title change? I thought it would be fun to post a cleaning tip every Tuesday between now and our next event, so Grab your coffee and come on in for our first cleaning tip and an invitation to our upcoming “Spring Cleaning from the Inside Out” event!

Have you ever tried to get cigarette smoke out of a piece of furniture? Ugh! That is a cleaning challenge that definitely ranks high on the scoring chart. I have this beautiful piece of furniture that my biological mom left me, what they used to call a “secretary.” Anyway, it’s been in our garage since mom passed, which is almost a year and a half ago, and it still wreaked so bad of cigarettes. Okay, maybe because I’m an ex-smoker, I’m a bit sensitive. So I cleaned it all up, got all the nicotine off the glass shelves and windows and we brought her in, but gosh darn it if I don’t smell just the faintest hint of cigarettes every time I come down the stairs and get close to the corner by the door that I have put it.

Well, I’ve put fabric softener sheets in the drawers; I’ve put baggies filled with baking soda in the drawers, and I can still smell it!    So, here’s the newest trick I just learned and I’ll have to let you know if it works: Cut up an apple and scatter it in the drawers and on the shelves. Hopefully I won’t forget about it before it starts getting all moldy! Anyway, that’s our first cleaning trick. Bring it with you to our next event!
