It’s Every Man for Himself; Every Woman for Herself. . . NOT! From Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and thanks for joining me today for a cup of encouragement. I can’t believe September’s gone. It went by so fast, that the memories created and shared are still forming in my brain! Grab your coffee and come on in for our October’s WOW, Words of Wisdom and/or Weapons of Warfare. 🙂

When He gave me this month’s WOW, I actually had the audacity that it applied to another person whose life I had the privilege of speaking into a couple of weeks ago, Silly me; I keep forgetting to sip from the cup of humility too often so He handed me a full cup just the other day and when I swallowed it, oh, did these words take on even more beauty, adding more illumination of understanding as I continue to show up.

Before I share my cup of humility I received, let me direct you to the WOW. It isfound in the book of Philippians, chapter 2, verses 3-4. Now isn’t that an easy one to remember? Philippians 2:3-4! 🙂 I love easy-to-remember addresses! By the way, the version I’ll be sharing is from the New King James Bible.

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceitSTOP! Sorry, but I’m having one of those urges again to look up a word and since this is New Testament, I’ll go to the Greek concordance. The word that is pulling at my attention is ambition. So, ambition – wait, there is no “ambition” in the concordance. Well, that’s weird. Okay, so it must be a translation thing. So, that’s okay; I’ll go to my Holy Bible (1865 copy) which says: “Translated out of the original tongues,” which says: “Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory.” Interesting! Now let me look up strife. This is getting fun! 🙂

The word strife translates to eritheia and “denotes self-seeking ambition, self-will being an underlying idea with an emphasis on drawing followers.” It also says: Seeking to win followers creates factions, and factions are the result of jealousy. So in English, I’m thinking of the word “pot stirrer”! Let’s continue with the WOW.

I just noticed something else in the last line. My Microsoft Word program has the word “own” underlined in green, which means that it’s grammatically incorrect. But you know what? It’s really not. I believe HE put that there for emphasis because when I check the translation out in my 1865 edition of the Holy Bible, “his own interests” is in there too. I believe He wants us to see the difference between our and “our own.” Oh, I pray that you see it as you read it aloud. Put any form of possession in there, his, her, my, our and you can see the ownership, if you will. But when you add the word “own” to either of these, the light illuminates that that ambition just may be our own and not HIS!

Oh, how true it is that the Word is alive and Holy Spirit inspired. Please join me tomorrow for the conclusion to our October WOW.
