Name Calling from Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and thanks for joining me today. I am so excited to share this blog with you and I hope that you will take something from it that is life-changing, something that causes you to thrive instead of strive in those difficult places and hard-to-bear circumstances. Please bring a journal or something to write in or on as well as your coffee. We’re gonna have a little name calling fun! 🙂

Have you ever been so exasperated, so frustrated and maybe even so angry that you started blurting out the first thing that came to your mind against the one who had, in your eyes, caused you so much exasperation, frustration and/or anger? Pretty soon, before you know it, you’re in up to your eyeballs in name calling. Well, that’s NOT the type of session we’re gonna have today, though I must confess, I’ve had a few temptations lately to go in that direction. 🙂

One morning during my quiet time, I felt compelled to begin it differently. See, usually, I begin with what Beth Moore calls – and now I do too – God Stops! These are what we recognize when we take time to be still and rewind the day before, looking for all the things we can and should be thankful for that we may have missed in the moments that they actually happened. See, I don’t know about you, but I am so busy looking toward the next thing that I can often miss what has happened in that moment.

Anyway, this particular morning, and now many since then, I began it differently. I felt this intense need to be deeper in His presence, to steer away from custom and habit and allow His Spirit to revive, refresh and renew me. I was thirsty all the way down to my bones for more of Him, for a connection with Him. I needed to feel His love and take a bath in it, spiritually speaking, for my heart was incredibly overwhelmed and heavy at the same time with the desire to learn and pass the current test, so to speak, that I find myself taking under the direction of our Professor! (See, there’s another name!:) )

I opened up my prayer book/journal and as I listened to a praise and worship song – what it was and who it was sung by I couldn’t tell you – and suddenly it was just me and Him and I was calling Him all the names He has become to me, all the names He is to me in my life now, and also all the names I need to let Him be to me and in my life and in this season of testing. I began writing fast and joyfully as the truth of each one echoed in my heart and mind.

To say it is a powerful experience is truly an understatement and that’s why I am so excited to share it with you. Participating in this “name calling” is a beautiful way to change our perspective, to change our focus, and most importantly, to change our attitude.

I don’t know about you, but there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t need some sort of attitude adjustment. 🙂 And the more names that I call Him, the quicker my adjustment happens.

What about you; what current test do you find yourself taking in life? Are you frustrated, sad, overwhelmed, mad/angry or feel like giving up? Write down some names that you know Him to be, even if you believe it because someone else has told you that. For example, do you know that He is the God of the universe? Then call Him the True God. Do you believe in the trinity? Then call Him the Ultimate Sacrifice. Do you have a place to call home and food to put on the table and clothes to wear? Then call Him Jehova Jireh, which means God provides, or provider.

Woops, it’s getting to be that time. I better let you go. Join me tomorrow for a more intimate name calling that stems from our circumstances.

P.S. Happy, happy birthday to my VFF, Janine. God has blessed me and made me a better person by the gift of you and your friendship! May the memories we create today squeeze your heart with smiles for years to come….
