The Bachelor, The Final Rose with Coffee Hour @ Chickilt Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power’s blog on The Bachelor. We’re down to the final rose. This will be a break from all the tragedy in Japan, not that we should EVER forget about it or minimize it. Grab your coffee and come on in.

So the first five minutes were rewinds from episodes leading up to tonight. Okay, already. Let’s get the show on the road. Cape Town, South Africa, here we come. What a place to end this journey! Wow, I have to tell on my geographically challenged self and admit that I had no idea that Africa had such a beautiful body of water anywhere near it! Seriously! 🙂

Here comes Brad’s family, all the way from Austin, Texas, his Mom, his two brothers and their wives, and you know what happened; he broke down crying, real hard, happy tears. One of his brothers is his twin, and I mean identical twin. After his twin brother hears from Brad about why it’s different this time as compared to last time he was the bachelor, he then asks him, “Are you considering proposing?” Silence . . . and then, “I absolutely am.”

Chantal rings the doorbell. Let the show begin. She shares with Brad’s family that she fell in love with Brad in Costa Rica. So the brothers take her outside to chat. They are convinced of her feelings for their brother. I love what his mom asks, and she prefaces it with, “You know, I’ve got to ask…” and then she smiles and continues, “How could you fall in love so quick?” To which Chantal says, “You know, that’s a good question.” So not a good answer! But then she says, she honestly wouldn’t be able to had she not gone through what she’d already gone through. Oh, I love what she just said. “We’ve been living in la-la land; I get that. But my favorite times with Brad are when we’re just doing the normal stuff.” So true, girl, so true!

Mom really liked her, said she fit right in and she’s precious. 🙂 Brad and his mom really like her “raw honesty.” Whew, this is going to be tough. I’ve been thinking it was Emily he was going to choose, but I don’t’ know now.

It’s Emily’s turn now. Dang it they all shake Emily’s hand instead of hugging her like they did Chantal. Not a good sign. 🙁 Wes’s first comment is how much more reserved she is compared to Chantal. You could see all the questions on each of their faces as bits and pieces of Emily’s life were discussed, and when she shared about her daughter’s dad being killed in a plane crash blew all of them away, and softened their hearts towards her. Now maybe she’s not so reserved.

Wes really liked her after he sat down with Emily, and he stressed the importance of filling the shoes of being a father, especially since they didn’t really have a good example of a father figure. Wes then asked him a powerful question: “Do you get that warm fuzzy feeling? Dude, you’re talking about having a family!” Brad’s response was very convincing. “I get the warmest feeling that I can’t describe, and I would welcome that opportunity to be a father.” Brad went on to share about his meeting little Ricki, and his brothers were amazed. They had never seen Brad like this before. “She is truly one of the most genuinely sweet people I’ve ever met in my entire life. And I love the fact that she’s very much a lady. It makes me want to be a better guy.”

Wes, his older brother, was blown away. He said, not only is Brad ready to be a husband, but he’s ready to be a full-blown father. The talk with Brad’s mom and Emily was a lot more comfortable than I thought it would be. Mom’s favorite thing that Emily said was that Brad was her angel, as she’s crying. The good-byes ended better than the hellos, with lots and lots of hugs.

Brad goes back inside, praying for advice from his family. So his sister-in-laws think that while they liked Chantal, Emily was more on their level, especially since she’s a mom as they are. They all liked her and said Emily was very poised and kind of the whole package. Mom admitted to not being as animated with Emily as she was with Chantal, and Brad asked why that was. “I’ll shoot straight with you: I think I’m looking at the girl you’re going to marry. Brad knows that if his mom could choose for him, it would be someone just like Emily.

Now Brad’s going to have a date with each of them, and Chantal’s first. He likes to push her to her limits, and this final date before the final rose definitely takes the cake. They are going to get in a cage and by the way, it’s being put down into the ocean and there are great white sharks swimming all around them!  Yikes! There’s a totally different chemistry between the two of them, fun and exciting, but it doesn’t have a lot of depth, truly! He keeps reminding us that he is so himself when he’s around her. Ahhhh, she’s giving him a present, a map that shows all the places they’ve been, and attached to the map was a letter professing her love and the reasons for her. She made herself cry. Brad was touched, but it was almost as if he was holding back. I want to see how he shows emotion if Emily gives him something. I don’t know; I’m thinking it would be different.

As Brad walks toward Emily, he reminds us that his family chooses Emily and he really wants to firm that up today. They get in a helicopter to go see South Africa helicopter-style and they’re going to land at the Cape of Good Hope. Brad reminds us that his relationship with Emily has been built slowly and he is confident about his feelings. Now he wants to talk to her about little Rickie. “Ever since I met her, Em, I want you to give me the chance and I want her to give me the chance to be an actual father, not a step-father. And I really mean these words so please listen to me. I never in a million years would ever come in and want to replace her father, but I guarantee that I could love you and your daughter more than you could ever imagine if you give me the chance.” Emily asked Brad what role he saw playing in Ricki’s life, and Brad said “being a father means unconditional love, being provider, protector, being a friend when the time calls for it and being a disciplinarian when the time comes for that too, and all the good that comes with the bad and all the bad that comes with the good, I’m ready.” Emily takes the conversation a bit too deep, and Brad is getting a bit ticked and he’s feeling like he’s being questioned and he’s never ever said these words to anyone. He is obviously highly agitated because he felt shot out of the water, knocked down, and he left feeling defeated, questioning everything. Dang it, Emily, your insecurities shouldn’t become Brad’s debts!

Oh, here comes the ring guy and Brad picks it out with true intent. Brad gets teary-eyed again as he picks the ring up and thanks the jeweler. Now they’re all getting ready, separately, of course. 🙂 They each look stunning. Come on already, let’s do this. So how do they work the logistics out anyway? Does Brad give them a heads-up and let them know who he’s chosen so they send the right woman ahead first? Wow, the girls look amazing, but Emily is Cinderella beautiful, breathtaking! So a little hint; they show Chantal going in the limo and being taken first. Hmmmmm . . .

Okay, they’re back. It’s the white limo, and the shoes that get out are tan, and it’s a black dress, Chantal’s dress. She’s the one he is going to say good-bye to. Oh, this is going to hurt because she’s so not expecting it. Brad takes her to the side, begins to talk about their connection, how he is able to be himself around her. He tells her how he’s thought about every single date, and that his family saw everything that he fell for which is her confidence, someone that is self-assured and someone he’s looked for a long, long time. And then, “Here’s where it gets tough. I don’t know how else to say it except I have stronger feelings for someone else.” He kept asking her is she was all right, and every time she answered “No.” He asked if she wanted to talk to him, say something to him and she said she didn’t know what to say. There’s no doubt in my mind that this kind of emotional pain is so not right, not necessary.

Okay, Brad’s getting back in place for Emily’s arrival and he’s so focused on Emily that he’s grinning ear to ear, literally glowing almost as bright as the diamonds on the beautiful ring that he will place on Emily’s finger in moments.

“Oh, Emily, where do I begin?” How cute; he’s so nervous and giddy, just like he’s been every episode. He begins to talk and then he gets choked up. “You’re the one, Em; you’re it. You’re my once in a lifetime. So what I’m asking is this: please give me your forever; please let me be your best friend; please let me protect you and your beautiful daughter. And please give me the opportunity to love you for the rest of your life.”

Okay, so I’m so glad that it was her, because I believe they stand a chance. Oh, may the memories of this journey help get them through the rough spots, and may their love last beyond the final rose.

Have a great day, and for those of you in the Yucaipa area, I’ll be at Fitness 19 from 8:30 to 11:30 and then 4:00 to 7:00 tonight selling and signing books!

P.S. So “After the Final Rose” was actually disappointing, but not surprising. Emily’s got some major battles of insecurity going on and so their status is still engaged, but their original wedding day was supposed to be the day this final rose segment aired, but she postponed it. She says they have to learn how to fight, but that she loves him with everything in her. So, there’s some troubled waters ahead, as all the couples go through and most of them don’t make it out of the waves but are taken in by the undercurrents of insecurities, just not knowing each other well enough, pressure, status, all kinds of things that can really rip a relationship apart. So, if you’re going to follow this couple, might I suggest that you stick with the “People” magazine which reports the facts closer to the truth than any other magazines.

Bye-bye for now.

My husband and I just got word that Brad Womack had chosen Emily over Chantal, even so it seems that the bride and groom had split up for a short time since the show finished filming. And so, at this time they may not be having a wedding? That is so bizarre, My family and I can not believe that it!
