You’re invited to “Understanding Depression” From Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chickilt Power and thanks for joining me. Our next “Destination? Joyful! ™” event has inspired this series, and my prayer is that it will answer so many of those unasked questions and encourage you to join us in November at The River Church in Redlands for our “Keeping Stress out of the Holidays and Overcoming Depression” workshop. Grab your coffee and come on in. 🙂

I was talking with Steve, my friend and co-host on Blog Talk Radio, and shared with him that I wanted to do this series before our event. I had so many questions and really didn’t know where to start. Well, if I felt that way, I wonder what everyone else must think about this subject.

After a lengthy conversation with Steve, and more conversations to come, I’ve realized that before we can overcome anything, we must understand it to the best of our ability so that’s the better starting place: Understanding depression. From there, we can talk about its symptoms and side effects and then move on to overcoming them.

So, our first fact, if you will, is that there are two types of depression: Endogenous and exogenous. Endogenous depression is from within and exogenous is external. Now, this seems pretty logical when you look at the word prefixes, but I have to confess, I had no idea of the difference. I mean I thought if you were depressed, it was within, and I also thought it had to be sort of a ongoing condition! NOT TRUE!

What is true is that every one of us has had some sort of experience with exogenous depression, either because of a personal experience or circumstance outside or within ourselves, an experience with a close friend, a family member, maybe an attitude from a stranger or an acquaintance. The truth is depression is real, silent and can be extremely harmful to our emotional well being.

So, with that, let me extend an invitation to what is sure to be another powerful Destination? Joyful! ™ event.
