Oh, it’s great to sit, be still and to write from my heart to yours … with our coffee in hand! Come on in; let’s get back to the life-application portion of our Words of Wisdom and Weapons of Warfare for the first month of 2015 … which is about gone!

So back to George and these three homeless men: As I rewind that moment and what was flitting through my head, I am convicted to move beyond critical questioning. I no longer have to grimace inwardly, wondering what they did with that money, whether they bought food or …

What they do with that money is no longer my business – well, George’s business; it never was mine! J They will one day be accountable for how they spent it. If they fed their tummies anything but food, that’s their issue, not mine and when I read this scripture, that truth is affirmed and confirmed.

Now, as far as I was concerned, by the time we were seated for dinner, sharing conversation, laughter, and experiencing all kinds of yummy tapas, those three men were all but forgotten … until the next day.

I was putting George’s clean and folded laundry in his closet and saw at least a half dozen pair of socks on the ground and wondered what they were doing there, but I left them there. And I didn’t even nag him about it! 🙂 The next morning I noticed they were gone. I never gave it another thought until he brought it up the next night.

We were cleaning up after dinner when George very subtly announced “I went and seen those three guys today.”giving_hands

I almost asked him “what three guys” but the light turned on before the words came out. “You mean the homeless guys?”
“Yeah, I took ‘em some socks and those new sleeping bags I bought for our earthquake kit.”

My heart smiled. “Did they remember you?”

“Oh, yeah, the older guy came right up to me; he was so happy to see me.”

I sat at the sink, stopped in my tracks by a sweet humility. See, there’s this certain string on my heart that gets pulled every time I think of George and his passion and the string is also attached to a dream of mine; that someday, when God provides however He’s going to provide through my passion, that we can build a huge shelter to house and rehabilitate the homeless that George can run and hire others to help with.

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall as he walked up to his neighbors and blessed them. It makes my eyes water knowing how fulfilled he felt, especially in this season of his life. When he shared what he had done, I felt such joy for him, and there was also an ouch in there for me because I’ve been moving so fast in my journey that I hadn’t given them anymore thought beyond that night! George had taken his faith beyond Sundays … I hadn’t even moved past Saturday!

Let’s chew a bit more on something else in our WOW which may help us to recognize those divine appointments that lead us right to an unknown neighbor. See, the first part of our WOW says we shall “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind …” this is first before loving your neighbor as yourself. Oh, something tells me we just discovered a humongous key to unlock the way to do this. Join me tomorrow as we unlock it!:-)
