Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power: “A Psalm a Day”…

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and thanks for coming by. I’m excited to be starting this new series with you. Grab your coffee and come on in.

A while back I shared with you about writing the Psalms according to your life and putting your name and/or your circumstances in the Psalm. What a perfect day to start this series. This particular Psalm is so very special to me. Several years ago, I heard one of these verses loud and clear before He changed the direction of my life forever. That’s a whole other story for another time but truly, time and time again, I have realized that there is nothing like a little dose of the Word to splash a whole lot of perspective on whatever we are going through in our own lives or watching in the lives of others.

Many people are intimidated by the Big Book, so my heart’s desire is to make this easy and fun. My hope and prayer is that you will experience amazing and life-changing moments and that His Word will come alive in YOUR heart. Let’s get started.

The first thing to do is go to the number that corresponds with the day of the month, so today being the 23rd of August we’ll go to Psalm 23. We could also start with 123 so there’s another option. Now read the six verses to this Psalm. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Now what we need to do is write it according to our circumstances. You take it verse by verse and just speak from your heart as you begin writing it down. Here’s what came out from my heart: (1) Thank you, Father, that you are my Shepherd [Hebrew translation for Shepherd = ra’ah and it means:] Friend, my Pastor and my Companion. In other words, God, you are my everything and you are all that I need! Help me not to want. (2) Thank you that you do whatever it takes to get me to rest in you and to be content. Your love leads me into peace. (3) Nothing in this world or no one in this world is able to restore my soul. It is Your Word, Your Spirit, Your hand that is the restorer of my soul. As long as I look to you, I will go in the right direction and, oh, that I may bring You glory. (4) Yes, there will be dark times, times of sickness, times of warfare, and even thoughts of death, but death cannot have the final say in my life and fear will not accompany me; You accompany me. And with us shall come your tools of authority and truth (rod and staff) and those will comfort and protect me in times of trouble. (5) You protect me when I am surrounded by conflict, lies and misunderstanding; my mind cannot fathom your sovereignty. (6) Yes, because I run after you, surely your goodness and your mercies shall follow me until we are together in eternity.

Go ahead and get that piece of paper and write your Psalm….
