Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power: “Obedience? What’s that?” Part 2

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power. Grab your favorite beverage and let’s get back to the depth of this miracle. It truly is amazing!

So I don’t know about you, but when I think of the word “obey,” it has sort of a strong connotation and I sort of feel like I have to stand at attention with my eyes wide open and my mouth shut, which is why I was even more surprised when I looked up the translation of this word for this particular verse in the Greek concordance. As I read the definition, tears sprang to my eyes and understanding warmed its way ever so slowly into my heart. The definition reads: To guard, to keep, to PROTECT!

I was immediately reminded of some major changes we’ve all seen in him as well as some really good choices that he’s been making. Those thoughts helped bring to clarity this amazing picture of my son protecting his relationship with our Father, obeying Him because he loves Him! How beautiful is that!

What I read in my devotional yesterday revealed yet another facet of this sparkling diamond and brought it home to my own life: “When our motivation to obey becomes an oppressive pressure to do the right thing, to do what’s expected of us as ‘Christians,’ then it breeds serious problems.”

I don’t know about you, but both he and I have been so guilty of obeying obedience, because that’s what’s expected. But now we are learning that obedience that is only seen as rule-keeping ruins that love relationship between us and our Father because we actually wind up obeying the ‘rule’ and not our Father! See how that sneaky devil gets in there. Is it any wonder we heap condemnation upon ourselves.

I was so humbled by this picture of my son’s love for our Father. It served as a powerful reminder of the love I have for our Father that leads me to obedience, the reason I long to do His will and protect our relationship. Oh, to thrive in obedience…..

Reach out and make it a great day!

Hugs

I am so happy to hear that your son opened the door and let Him in. What a peace that brings to your life. Satan will diligently try to deflect him, but it sounds like he finally GETS IT.

How true that we believe that obeying means “sit down and shut up”. Our pastor taught us that we can become legalistic trying to “obey” all of our rules we set up thinking that it makes us more spiritual. When we love the Lord and know how much He loves us, we can understand that the word “obey” is not a negative word! We want to obey (guard and protect) our relationship with Him.

I have heard people say that they are the “Captain of their own soul and in charge of their destiny! They will not obey anyone or put their lives in God’s hands so that they have to answer to Him. If they only knew!! It’s wonderful to be in His hands.

Thank you, Jesus, for this revelation.

Evinda, keep up the good work.

    Love and blessings.

I looooooooove it. To protect, to keep, TO GAURD. The parable of the faithful servent who keeps watch over his masters house and riches. When the Master returns and finds the servent keeping watch, and GAURDING his Master’s riches and house, the Master then says, “kick back and let me put on the servents cloths and serve you. Oh yeah, and all of those things that you so faithfully kept watch over, they’re yours now”. Man God’s sense of humor! He cant be anything but Good. I love you mom. You are such a cute little christian chick. I would’ve been a gonner if I didn’t have you reminding me that God is Bigger than our circumstanses and our understanding of love. It’s His kindness… I love ya.

A while back I shared with Jeff, that I would love to speak to the adolescent women in this generation and give them a word of hope on obeying God’s word as it pertains to abstinence! I hope to get that opportunity one day to tell them that God doesn’t command this of us, because “he SAYS SO!” or doesn’t understand the day we live in… HA! He was tempted just like we are! HE KNOWS! The Bible is evidence that there isn’t any SIN or IMMORALITY in our age that wasn’t around even possibly WORSE back then. I believe his reason is that he wants to give us our BEST life, with the least suffering possible! When I understood this… my heart melted at God’s love for us! His law isn’t motivated by power and control, but by his UNDYING LOVE for US! It is about protection and you reminded me of this again today! You are doing wonderful and amazing things Evinda! May God shower every word you type 🙂 with seeds for those who read them!!! Hope you don’t mind that I added my two cents! Can’t wait to hug you today!

    Lauren,
Amen and Amen. He knows what’s best, and if we wouldn’t be “stiffnecked and stubborn” as the people of Israel were, we would always receive His BEST.
