Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power: Obedience? What’s that?

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power. Thank you so very much for stopping by. Grab your favorite beverage, and get comfy. I have an awesome story to share with you.

I was reading in my “Diamonds in the Dust” devotional this morning and the subject was about obedience. As I read the scripture that the devotion was centered around, I couldn’t help but think of a miracle that I heard about yesterday that was as a result of obedience.

As I was listening to this person share his incredible miracle, I couldn’t help but realize it was because of his obedience to seek Our Father more than he had in his past. So let me tell you the story of his miracle and then I want to give you something to think about as it pertains to the word “obedience.” He told it something like this:

“So I was standing at the counter and this guy comes up. His name is Suk, not suck, but Suk.” He laughed at himself. “Get it?” He chuckled some more.

I laughed with him and he continued.

“Anyway, he’s a real cool guy and he comes in almost every day and orders the same thing. I rang him up and then started making his drink and we just kept talking. When I handed him his drink, he held out an envelope. I thought, ‘What in the world is this?’

(As he was telling me this, my heart stopped because there have been too many times in his past when he has taken envelopes that he shouldn’t have taken! I didn’t say anything, though and let him continue.)

“I looked down at the envelope and saw my name typed on it, right in the middle, with bold letters.”

(I held my breath and it was my turn to wonder. “Go ahead,” I urged.)

“Then I looked up in the corner and saw the name of a church. I looked up, my eyes becoming huge question marks. “What’s this?”

Suk looked at me and smiled. ‘Open it, man.’ So my heart’s beating harder than a drum, and I ripped it open. I pulled it out in disbelief.”

(By this time I’m wanting to scream: WHAT WAS IT? But I bit my tongue and let him continue.)

“It was a check made out to me for $500, almost the exact amount I need to pay off my tickets and be able to drive my car. I think I’ll even have gas money left”!

To make a long story short, my friends, the guy who received that money was once a prodigal son and has been celibate and sober for almost a year. He’s had so many mountains to climb as a result of his past addictions, but he has been back in relationship with our Loving Father and has been seeking His help for each and every mountain. That guy was none other than my son, and as I listened to the joy in his voice, I couldn’t help but remind him that the miracle was definitely a result of his obedience.

John 14:15 says: “If you love me, you will keep My commands.” To the one who is not in relationship with our Heavenly Father, this can sound a little dogmatic. These words are especially hard to swallow for the one who doesn’t believe in our Heavenly Father. Regardless if you’re a believer and have a relationship with The Father, or you’re an atheist or agnostic, the word “obedience” is misused in so many areas of our life: In parenting, in marriage, in Christianity, et cetera. I am actually learning some amazing things about this subject, and yesterday’s miracle reinforces what I have learned.

Please come back tomorrow and I’ll share the diamonds I’ve discovered in the different definitions for “obedience,” diamonds that also reflect their definitions in life’s experiences and life’s miracles!

Have an awesome day!

My smile is HUGE as well 🙂 and when i found this out, I was in shock because it wasn’t the first envelope this church had handed out, so it was even more amazing that they followed through as he did, after our Heavenly Father and the blessings He has for us all. God is so faithful & gives us the desires of our hearts if we keep on keepin on! That’s my motto and it was proven again with this! Thanks for sharing this wonderful news with others Evinda <3
