Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power: What’s Grace Got to do With it?

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power. I’m truly happy that you joined us. Grab your coffee or your favorite beverage and let’s get back to where we left off.

So in the quiet of the morning after, I was able to reflect back on the loud frustration of a situation and recognize that not just once, but three times He splashed grace on me through Cheryl, our body-sculpting instructor. What a healing medicine that was, and to think had I not taken time to be still in the morning and reflect upon the Godstops from the day before, I most likely would have not realized that I had been given that dose of grace!

So what is grace? The Old Testament defines it as “the moral quality of kindness, a state of favor, pleased with.” But how could He be pleased with me when I’m stinky? I wonder. Good question. The New Testament defines grace as “unmerited favor, a gift.” In other words, I didn’t and can’t do anything to deserve it; it just is!

Think of grace like this: When someone hands you a wrapped package, they extend their hand out to you with the package in it and you have to do what? Reach out and take the gift, right?

So it is with the gift of grace. Once you receive the gift, it becomes medicine for your soul with some life-changing side effects.

I don’t know about you, but I love to give gifts; receiving gifts is not as easy for me to do, and when it comes to the gift of grace, I’m still slow to extend my hand out to receive it, even after all these years, but He is patient with me as I grow to understand His grace and the power behind it.

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the “pay it forward” philosophy. Well, so it is with grace. One of its most powerful side effects is becoming gracious! That’s a side effect I long to keep. Because I’ve been given that gift and I’ve received it, I must give it out, not once, not twice, but any and every time there is an opportunity. But I can only do that if I have truly accepted into my heart and life the dose of grace given to and for me.

Grace is like poetry in motion, God’s energy, all bright, beautiful and powerful. Grace comes to life in us when we reach out and touch others who are hurting. E. Stanley Jones wrote:

“Grace binds you with far stronger cords than the cords of duty or obligation can bind you.

Grace is free, but when, once you take it,

you are bound forever to the Giver

and bound to catch the Spirit of the Giver.

Like produces like.

Grace makes you gracious.

The Giver makes you want to give….”

So go ahead, reach out and take the gift; discover the joys of unwrapping it. Catch the spirit of graciousness and experience change in your world!

Reach out and make it a great day!
