Don’t Forget How You Came-From Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and thanks so much for stopping by. We’re starting a new series and I can’t wait to share it with you. Grab your coffee and come on in.

I’ve been studying about David, you know, the guy who beat Goliath with a sling and a stone? The bulk of David’s story is in 1st and 2nd Samuel, and I have to tell you this is a great story, seriously! I mean I’ve not been bored at any sitting.

That’s what is so cool about reading His Word. If you want a love story, there are plenty of them in here. If you want drama, oh my goodness but there is plenty of that in the pages of this number 1 best seller! And for those who like sci-fi and futuristic stuff, well, this is the Book; let me tell you. For you mystery lovers, oh yeah, there is plenty of mystery, but the amazing thing about the mysteriousness is He’ll solve them for us if we just show up to learn. And He doesn’t just reward with the solution; He gives us buried treasure more beautiful than diamonds. 🙂

So let me share with you where I am at in David’s life. He’s older now, I think somewhere in his late 20’s. He’s at the top of his game; meaning he’s reached the highest he could in his career. God has given him all kinds of successes and David has what you and I would consider everything: Fame, fortune, position and power.

Let’s stop there for a minute and, please, let me assure you that in the midst of his successes, they were not without sacrifice, without failures, without doubting, and without sinning – falling short. Oh, no, quite the contrary. That’s what makes reading about him so easy; His life is full of realities, realities that you and I can relate to on any given day. And his example of how he handled his realities is also something you and I can learn from for any given situation. For example, he didn’t wallow in his doubts for long; he used them as a compass to seek God more. And you talk about worship; this guy knew how to unabashedly abandon himself in intimate worship before the Lord. Oh, how I long to be more like that more often.

So let’s get back to where David is now, the highest point in his career for he has just conquered the surrounding nations, as God promised would happen. See the surrounding nations were oppressing the Israelites miserably and God had made a covenant with David – because David met with Him constantly – that the Israelites’ enemies would be defeated and no longer oppress them.

Wait a minute. I have to tell you something before we move on in this story. Do you realize that He has done the same for us? Oh how I need that reminder and all too often. Just the other day my husband and I were talking and he shared a realization that came upon us way too quickly: In just two months, the payment we receive every month from the sale of George’s company will cease! Panic and prayer were literally having a tug of war in my mind. Our financial situation is about to change drastically. Talk about a piece of humble pie. Oh, how that reminds me of how I still come to Him, in need of more of Him and less of me.

Come back tomorrow and we’ll get back to what happened after David’s biggest victory.

Victory to you today,

Evinda
