Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power…

Happy Monday! I know, Mondays can be mundane can’t they? I hope each of you had a restful weekend and you’re ready to face this new week, as well as this new month! Speaking of new, Mondays now mean Jenn’s Journey here on the blog. I’ve known Evinda for 2 years, and being a part of her ministry has helped me on my quest towards better personal and spiritual connections. When she asked me to be write regularly, I got very excited to be able to share the things God has put on my heart. Welcome…Grab your coffee and let the Light shine in.

One night last week, I was wracking my brain for something to do to keep a little one busy for the last half hour before bed. I decided on a walk in the dark, with some flashlights. My daughter and I each grabbed one and walked out onto the dark street. Her first words to me were, “Mom, it’s kind of creepy”  “But we have our lights” I responded..”just shine it in front of you and you’ll be able to see where you are going.”

As we walked down the street she was entertained by flashing the light all around, even up into the sky. She said to me “Mom! Light is SO cool. Look, you can even shine it into a dark bush and see!” It hit me…yes, isn’t light so cool? Light shines into the darkest places.

Webster’s defines light as 1) that which makes things visible, illumination 2) the state of being visible 3) clarification 4) point of view, principles of conduct.

How often have you felt as if you are in the dark? Someone has blindsided you with an unexpected action, you have lost someone you love, an accident happened which changed your life forever, a relationship is broken, you feel alone, abandoned with no one to talk to…I know I have felt in the dark many a time. I felt lost,  not knowing what was hiding behind the next scary tree or bush. I needed my flashlight. Thankfully, the one True Light is only a prayer away.

There is a verse in the Bible which says “My word is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path” Psalm 119:105. One concordance I consulted says that God’s word illuminates men’s paths so that we may walk safely in the spiritual darkness of this world. We who have this Light need not stumble even though evil surrounds. I have found this very comforting in my journey in the dark…and it doesn’t feel so scary when I know that the Light is illuminating my path, making things visible, clarifying what I need to do.

As we walk our different paths this week, let’s remember to grab our Light…to allow others to be light in our lives and to hold up the Light for others. It’s just a little less scary that way!

Be blessed.

Good First Monday Blog to you Jenn. Happy to read your words about light. Many years ago when I was about 12 or 13 I received a Bible from a beloved woman of God. In it she wrote the quote Psalm 119:105 on the front page. The Bible has been through a lot over the years and is filled with notes, and pages that are dog eared now. I have had my newer Bible now for years and years, but I cherish my old one and always try to write the Psalm quote in any I give to others. It has always been a blessed reminder to me that the Word is our Light. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your comments….Jan, that is so neat that you’ve had that same Bible for so many years. I have one like that myself, I got it when I was 15. It’s full of notes and also pages of quotes that have meant something to me on my journey. Like a diary, only better! 🙂
