Monthly WOW (3) From Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and welcome back to the final course of our Monthly WOW. Whew, there was some good eating in this month’s words of wisdom. Grab your coffee and come on in.

To help us understand how to humble ourselves, let’s look up the definitions of humble in the context with which it is used in this scripture. Since our scripture is taken from a New Testament book, we’ll look in the Greek concordance. Here it is: To make low, bring low, to be abased (abased is to lower in rank, prestige or esteem).

Well, that makes about as much sense as – wait a minute. So Peter is telling those being persecuted to humble themselves, i.e., to make themselves lower, and they’re already pretty lowly, but if they follow these instructions, think about it. If they consider themselves lowly, abased, then doesn’t it stand to reason that their persecution wouldn’t have as much power? If they weren’t perched on pride, there wasn’t as much room for emotional and/or spiritual fatality.

So we’ve looked at the bridge that brings our job to His job, and the bridge is “under the mighty hand of God,” which we now know is His church. So He’s telling us that the way to humble ourselves is to be under a church! That’s exciting to me. After we went through the five-fold ministry being the mighty hand of God, this makes a lot more sense, (at least to me) So when we humble ourselves, He’s gonna exalt us in due time.

So let’s look at the final part of our WOW, Verse 7 which says: “. . . casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.” (NKJV) Look at the first word there, “casting.” I don’t know about you but when I hear that word, the first thing I think of is a fisherman casting his pole way out in the lake in hopes of catching a fish. “Casting” in the Greek concordance means: to throw away from one’s self, repudiate, which is to refuse to have anything to do with. Now that’s interesting. I love it when we dig and see such specificity in His directions to us.

Basically he wants us to refuse to have anything to do with carrying our cares; instead, we should throw them away from ourselves and give them over to Him. And why does He want us to do that? Here’s the dessert: Because He cares for us! Let me tell you, until you’ve allowed Him to care for you, you haven’t been cared for!

I pray that this month’s WOW comes alive for you again and again and again. Inspired by Him,
