Thank you so much for joining me for a little coffee break! I know life can be so fast-paced sometimes that we forget to stop and take that little break so kudos to you! Grab your coffee and come on in. All of us are gathered in the office next to the courtroom to discuss visitation with bio-mom, her parents and little Bryden.

Bio mom’s parents’ attorney began the discussion, reminding us of what the judge had said; that Bryden needed many family members interacting with him. I swallowed the words that were waiting on the tip of my tongue to some rolling out! The discussion continued with her mom going on and on and on – now I see where bio mom gets it from. Michelle and I looked at each other and you would have thought we had a code that said: Go!

Michelle sat up in her chair and began to gently explain our concerns – one of them being Bryden always returned home congested and his asthma ignited! We knew their cigarette smoking in the house greatly contributed to it. This is an addiction I can so relate to; on the other hand, I never allowed myself to smoke in my homes. I’ve seen how nicotine clings to the walls and soaks into paint, changing its color more and more “dramastically” (Evinda-ism) over time. And I have my mom’s little secretary/hutch in my entryway which still has the aroma of nicotine that assaults my nose every time I open it! Oops, I’ll get off my soap box and out of the cigarette carton!

Anyway, we resolved that as best as we could: They agreed they wouldn’t smoke in certain parts of the house and would

certainly not smoke around Bryden. That was their form of compromise which they were unable to see wasn’t really much considering that the smoke damage is in their home’s foundation! Talk about feeling as though our hands were tied beyond freedom on this issue!

The conversation moved to another subject, then another, and another. I sat mesmerized as I watched these three people who had been hurling verbal words of anger at one another, tearing each other down to bits and pieces over the last couple of months actually communicating. At times I could literally touch their unresolved pain, anger and bitterness, but they were talking through some things. I was torn between disbelief and belief. Were they being real, or fake? But that really isn’t for me to judge, but there was still a very big and unresolved issue that had not been discussed and it had everything to do with bio mom and as the conversation between her and her parents escalated, I knew the door was getting ready to open to address what we’d all been dancing around!

Join me tomorrow for that open door . . .
