September WOW (3) at Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power, and welcome back to the September WOW, words of wisdom. I had no idea it would take three blogs to cover this, but hey, what can I say; I love digging for diamonds, and diamonds have lots of facets. Grab your coffee and come on in and let’s finish up our words of wisdom in verse 29.

Verse 29 says: “Take My yoke upon you” – oops, gotta stop. Sorry. Let’s check out the word yoke because this is another word that has caused me confusion as far as these words of wisdom truly residing and abiding in my heart.

Okay, so “yoke” in the Greek translation means “a law or obligation; serving to couple two things together; is used metaphorically of submission to authority.” So let’s think about this in the context it’s spoken. Jesus is hanging out with His disciples, talking about people stuck on rules and laws, so He’s saying instead of the obligation of the old law, come to Me, to My grace (the new law) and yoke with Me, couple with me.

Wow, I have tears in my eyes as I envision Him, His hands outstretched, trying to explain to His disciples that the first rest is found by accepting Him, coming to Him. It’s like this open-ended invitation. There’s really no rules, no conditions, just a little faith required. He’s just saying come, and I will give you rest from the burdens/laws imposed by others. What an awesome invitation!

Continuing with the verse, “… and learn from Me –” Here’s another thought to consider, He’s offering us a FREE education with life-saving information “– for I am gentle and lowly (humble) in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Well, that “rest” is pretty self-explanatory. It is a rest for your soul which means you’re at peace, at rest with and in Christ. But note, “Christ’s rest is not a rest from work, but in work; it’s not the rest of inactivity but of the harmonious working of the will, the heart, the imagination and the conscience, because each faculty has found in God the ideal place for its development.”

I know that was a bit deep; I’m trying to wrap my brain around it too, so allow me to put it in an Evinda-ism and break it down: When we are resting in Him, our soul/spirit, our mind/emotions and our body/physical parts are all working together, not fighting each other. We all know what it’s like to be fighting the thoughts we know we shouldn’t be thinking. Resting in Him and relying on Him will bring those thoughts into alignment and bring rest. We also know what is good to feed our body; again, resting/relying on and in Him will bring that into alignment and rest will follow.

I hope these words of wisdom add light unto your path in the days to come.

Joyfully

Evinda

Really resting on Him during these times of waiting. Don’t know where I would be without Him, but I know I wouldn’t be resting.
