Gifts from the Heart, not the Pocket-From Coffee Hour with Chicklit Power

Welcome to Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and I hope you are enjoying the holiday season and not stressing. Thanks for joining me for a break. Grab your coffee and come on in for another gift idea. 🙂

The gift we’re going to unwrap today is the gift of goodness. I know, I can hear you saying, didn’t we talk about that yesterday?” Actually, there is a notable difference between the two gifts, but let me give you the definitions first.

As a noun, goodness means a moral quality and as a verb, it means to do well to the benefit of another. Short and sweet, right? Not quite! See the difference between kindness and goodness is that goodness includes the sterner qualities by which doing good to others is not always by gentle means! Let me see if I can make that clearer than mud! 🙂

Have you ever heard of exhortation? Well, that means a calling to one’s side and this is the difference between kindness and goodness. Can’t you see another word picture, “calling to one’s side”? He calls us to HIS side, to walk with Him for our own protection, for direction. It is a call to pursue a course of conduct that refers to the future, and is always for our benefit, in contrast to comfort for a mistake or wrong choice after the fact!

I don’t always enjoy His goodness in the midst of a little spanking, but I certainly do love it after the fact. Many times His goodness comes through the disguise of an unanswered prayer. Let me assure you of this: There is no such thing as an unanswered prayer. Many times we mistake His silence for ignoring but He reminds us in His Word that when we are seeking Him with our whole heart, His answers come. And it may not be within our time frame, but I know that I know that He’s never late, never early but always on time, His time!

Now here are some ideas of who to give the gift to after you’ve acknowledged your receipt of it: Parenting is the first one that comes to mind, probably because besides being a wife, parenting is the most important job you’ll ever do and trust me, you will get a job evaluation once you’re up there with Him. 🙂 As parents, we must find the balance between kindness and goodness for our children so we don’t cripple them with a sense of entitlement. Nowhere in His Word does it say thou shall be your child’s BFF! 🙂 They need a parent first, one to exhort them, call them to your side. There’s a time to show kindness, and there’s a time to show goodness.

How about that friend that you know is going down the wrong road; do you stand and watch or do you risk the friendship and call her to your side and encourage her to change direction? If you are walking in His goodness and following His lead, which means you’ll be doing it in love, you won’t come out the loser!

Who in your life could use this gift in their life today?

Totally surprising what a yahoo search will turn up at times. Coincidentally just stumbled upon this website by accident basically. Thankyou.
